Inspiration
Out of the about 47 million Kenyans, 80% have access to smartphones. Most of these use WhatsApp for their daily communication. With the recent outbreak of the Corona Pandemic, there is a need to provide realtime data on symptoms prevention and news from the local and international bodies on this virus.
What it does
- Provide news and updates about coronavirus by scrapping official Ministry of health sources
- provide local and international statistic on corona
- Provides information about signs, symptoms, and prevention
- Gives Kenyans hotline number to contact and health facilities they can visit near them
- Provide a way to report suspected cases.
How we built it
The team of three worked with Twilio API to connect to WhatsApp. On the backed, We have scrapping tools that give information on the latest news from reliable bodies. We also got information from the local ministry of health.

What's next for covid-kenya Alerts
We would like to have this service hosted and mapped to a WhatsApp for business Number that shall be used to run it. We also have more features like case tracking that can be implemented in future iterations.
