Inspiration
With cases soaring and ICU capacities nearing zero, the situation with the epidemic is the worst it's been for a long time. However, as someone who stays at home and doesn't frequent hospitals, it's hard to really understand how difficult it is for hospitals to cope with the stress being put on them right now, and how important it is to stay safe.
What it does
In this game, you're in charge of a hospital that's understaffed, overcrowded, and dealing with a huge influx of patients. Quickly manage the patients waiting for immediate treatment as well as the patients who have mild symptoms as quick as possible. There will be times where you have to make choices in who to prioritize for treatment, and how much you're willing to risk.
Overall, it's meant to give you an understanding of how stressful and how complicated it is to be working in a hospital during a pandemic. Stay safe!
How we built it
We built a game from scratch in Unity using their interface as well as scripting in C#.
Challenges I ran into
Git collaboration does NOT work with Unity and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. We learned that the painful way:')
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
None of us had ever made a full game before this project, and none of us knew C# (or Java for that matter). We somehow managed to pull it together!
What I learned
C# and a huge appreciation for game tutorials online
What's next for Covid Hospital Sim
So many possibilities! We're thinking of adding special events, powerups (like a vaccine), and a story to give the user more of a semblance of immersion. Also possibly the ability for the player to be a character in the game.
