Inspiration
The recent outbreak of the pandemic, COVID-19 is very scary and we were told that the only way to combat this problem was by staying at home and not stepping out. When we looked at all the doctors, healthcare officials, cops, the Goverment, people from all around the world fighting against this deadly disease, we wanted to do more than just staying at home. Being Computer Science students, we knew that we could contribute to the world with the help of technology and the time available during the quarantine inspired us to learn and do more. And thus, the idea of COVID Grocer was born.
What it does
COVID Grocer is a web application designed to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus. The main source of the spread when people are under a lockdown is them grocery shopping. There's a huge line outside the store and a rush inside the store. In order to prevent this, people can pre-order their groceries for takeaway and lets the grocer tell the customer in advance at what time their order is ready to pick up by means of an email sent to their account. This avoids a lot of physical contact and encourages social distancing thus benefiting the customer and the grocer.
How I built it
This web application was built using Python and Django along with Firebase as the database.
Challenges I ran into
Deploying the website is one of the major challenges that we are facing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
That the application is user friendly and allows them to tend to their needs and thus reducing the harm that the virus can cause.
What I learned
Learnt a lot about web development and the use of databases.
What's next for Covid Grocer
Our aim is to expand this app not only for Groceries but other essential services such as medicines and food supply.
