Inspiration

Covid-19 has made everyone unable to go out, causing boredom, therefore we thought to create a game where you can "defeat" viruses and give people hope in this unfortunate time. We also knew in this stressful time that drug use was more common due to Covid-19 and that there was a positive correlation between COVID-19 and overdosing. We decided that this would be a good project for the hackathon. It relieves stress which helps reduce drug use and it relates to the current world environment.

What it does

It is a simple 2D game that allows for the player to move left/right, jump, and shoot at enemies.

How I built it

We used unity to create most of the animations and terrain while we used c# to write the scripts for certain actions to be performed.

Challenges I ran into

As both unity and c# were new to us, we had to quickly adapt to the new style of programming and designing. There were many frustrating times when some animations/actions could not be performed and it took all of us to work hard and proficiently to get a successful run.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're proud of actually being able to create a game with a animated character along with effects such as shooting, since this is out first time coding a 2D game.

What I learned

I learned that game developers do not have an easy job as there are many steps and processes to creating a full and successful game.

What's next for Covid Dash

We are planning to further develop our game by improving the movement and smoothness and by also adding new features. Once well developed, we plan to release the game "Covid Dash" into Apple's and Google's application distribution platforms.
