Inspiration
As states slowly repeal restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic there is a looming threat of outbreak as social distancing is reduced. We want to provide improved accessibility by creating an easy-to-use statistics driven web interface and notification system to keep community members up to date on the state of the pandemic in their area.
What it does
This website uses the api provided on covidtracking.com and displays this information via clickable maps on our website. User's can click on different states on the Google maps api and we provide COVID related statistics on page via covidtracking.com's api.
Additionally, users can sign up on link page and receive daily notifications that our app provides via the covidtracking.com api. Subscribers are sent emails every 24 hours with COVID related updates pertaining to the states the user chose to subscribe to. The daily emails include new hospitalization rates, new death rates, and other statistics for each state the user selected, all within the past 24 hours.
How we built it
We build this web application as a team. We splits up main roles for each group member at the start of this project and helped each other out, taking advantage of each team member's strengths.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
As a team, are proud to have created an aesthetically pleasing website with email list functionality, Google maps api functionality interfaced with covidtracking.com api that allows users to subscribe and unsubscribe from the mailing list.
What I learned
We learned how to overcome some of the organizational challenges of working as a team on a coding project. We also learned how to better plan a future project of similar size in the future.
What's next for COVID Daily Notifications
While our website is fully functional, next steps would some fine tuning each webpage, placing our website behind a domain name,
