Inspiration

The inspiration for this project was focused on creating a unique solution in sightseeing despite the travel restrictions in place around the world. We wanted to integrate the project with the different design spaces to create a truly unique product which would be helpful and interesting to explore.

What it does

From the website page, we branched off into a digital app and a blog post. Both are unique in their own ways. All links on the website directly connect to the three individual problem spaces. The website itself includes flashing Christmas lights which acts as display for the coming holiday seasons ahead. We also have a travel app which allows you to experience the world as you see fit wherever, and whenever you need the extra break. Lastly, our new travel blog describes the nuances and unique perks of the new climate change solution. This also details an interesting travel destination which doubles as tourist attraction.

How I built it

The project was built using HTML and CSS with pictures edited and drawn in MS paint.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges of this project was the front end aspect of the project. This was especially prevalent with the Christmas lights and the flashing that was incorporated. This problem was solved by understanding/reviewing online resources. We specifically looked at how core elements of the lights could be changed and checked whether we could treat the lightbulb as a separate object. In the end, the easiest solution was to create a separate .png with different colors and schematics. This was then faded in and out in rapid succession as a way of implementing a flashing effect. Github was also something I was only familiar with. This was a bit of a challenge to operate as I was unsure how to pull and save project using gitbash/cmd. I decided to directly upload files in the interest of time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The website as a whole was worked on quite a bit. We are especially proud of overcoming some of the front end work and having integrated different elements into coding. These were unique challenges that we've overcome and saw the result of. It was also interesting to see how everything fit together in a website and how the overall aesthetics would look. The combination of different elements made it appealing to look at while maintaining the original problem space.

What I learned

CSS and html were talking points within the project. We also learned more about integration of pictures with the software itself to create a viable product. The project enhanced the understanding within css and html while the workshops helped greatly with all app development. An enhanced understanding was made with figma, html, css, and some of the aesthetics in visual design.

What's next for Covid, Culture, and Climate (The 3 C's)

We plan on continuing development if time allows and to hopefully expand and finish the app we planned out!
