Inspiration
We were inspired by how hard it was to find accurate, reliable data about such a widespread problem and hoped to resolve that.
What it does
It scrapes websites for accurate statistics on Covid-19 per country or state. It also supplies the user with random tips and facts about dealing with Covid-19. If allowed, the bot also updates the user with new news articles about Covid. To alleviate tension around Covid the bot also supplies the user with random memes about Covid.
How I built it
We designed the bot using a combination of python and java. We also used several apis to scrape websites and find relevant information.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into challenges working with a large group of people on one piece of code. It was also a challenge figuring out how to use some of the APIs to scrape the internet.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that we were able to finish the bot with no bugs or any major issues. I'm also proud of my team was able to pull together to learn a new language as well as how to work some APIs.
What I learned
I learned a lot of python during this project as well as how to use APIs in my code. I also learned how to make a discord bot and all of the work that goes into it.
What's next for Covid Bot
Hopefully Covid Bot will continue to automatically update itself and stay accurate. We plan to add more features such as a Covid Quiz and maybe even a symptom checker.
