Inspiration

There are a lot of COVID-19 resources available, so we wanted to create one place where they can all be accessed. We tailored it towards college students in hopes of helping our community feel safer when returning to campus in the fall.

What it does

Our website provides general information and resources students can use if they feel they or someone they know has COVID-19. There is a link to Health and Wellness at the University of New Hampshire which makes it easy to schedule appointments if necessary. The symptom quiz allows students to enter the symptoms they are experiencing to help determine the likelihood of them having COVID-19. How students answer each question determines what the next one will be. If a student is logged into their account, they can track their symptoms daily in our symptom tracker. All information will be saved and they can view how their symptoms have changed over time. In the unfortunate case that a student is diagnosed with COVID-19, they can visit our symptom timeline section. This is where a comprehensive guideline to the typical trajectory of the virus can be found. Our website allows students to take control of their health as well as make them feel more comfortable with returning to campus in the fall.

How I built it

We built this website using HTML, CSS, and Angular CLI. We each worked on one HTML and CSS section of the website and then one person put them all together in an Angular application.

Challenges I ran into

A challenge we faced was our level of coding experience. We are college students, each with 0-2 years of coding experience, so we had to teach ourselves and each other as we went.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of my team for working together virtually and being able to reach our goal for this project. None of us have worked together before and this was most of our first time participating in a Hackathon.

What I learned

During this process I learned what goes in to creating a website. I also taught myself basic HTML and CSS, as I had no experience with either.

What's next for COVID-19 Symptom Tracker

First, we would finish implementing certain features and cleaning up the code for the existing features. We would also keep the information we have on COVID-19 as up to date as possible. Our goal is to have colleges and universities use our website as a resource for their students. When we were creating the website, we envisioned the University of New Hampshire adding a link to it in the UNH Mobile app. This would help spread the word to students about the website as well as provide an easy way for them to access it. In the future, this website will be more generalized for all colleges and universities to use.
