Inspiration
As COVID-19 spreads, we started to think about how we could create a model to estimate the spread of infectious diseases. Our inspiration comes from this source: SIR Model for Spread of Disease
What it does
COVID Projections uses many variables to solve the SIR equations outlined in the paper.
How we built it
We used Python to make the program, and we decided to use a for loop instead of a recursive function to write the program that solves the equations, and then we ensured that it worked properly through extensive bug testing.
Challenges we ran into
We started with Python 2.7 by accident but were able to find and fix the error. We also struggled with some variable inconsistencies throughout, but overall I think it turned out very well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I enjoyed the testing phase and manages to work out most of the problems. I am also proud of how we managed to finish it in just 2 days.
What we learned
I learned how to use a new program to write my code. I decided to switch to VIM to complete this project and it turned out great.
What's next for covid-19 projections
We plan on looking at other ways to project the spread of viruses instead of limiting our scope to the SIR model. In addition, we plan on increasing the customizability of the program to include recurring illnesses and other factors.
