COVID-19 Pre-screening for Higher Risk Groups

During the Covid-19 global pandemic, hospitals are getting overwhelmed and risk-presenting for our senior citizens. This phone APP can give the patients a lung health pre-assessment.

Inspiration

We aimed to provide suspected patients a pre-screening tool to assess their lung health, and whether they would need immediate medical attention. This phone app can potentially free up hospital space, as well as medical workers' attention for those whose lives are on the verge.

What it does

  1. Instruct the patients to inhale fully, and exhaling into the microphone.
  2. Assessment questions that may ask for the patients' age, sex, race, family history, etc.

Use the idea of FVE1/FVC, to generate a score for the patient's lung health. The score might be affected by the patients' answers in the second part.

What's next for COVID-19 Pre-screening for Higher Risk Groups

We hope to make this app compatible to gadgets such as spirometry, such that people can obtain the gadget and monitor their lung health at home any time. We also hope to use machine learning in the future as more data of the breathing patterns become available, so our app can move towards the diagnostics direction.
