Inspiration

With COVID-19 spreading quickly, we felt making a game stressing the importance of countries working cooperatively to solve the pandemic would be topical and leave a good message in the current environment.

What it does

This is a game where you select choices for your country to make, causing indicators of your country's well-being to change over time. Ultimately, your goal is to either create a cure for COVID-19 or wait it out successfully.

its still a bit incomplete, but that was i think due to my horrible coding abilities

How I built it

A bunch of cobbled together javascript and html

Challenges I ran into

This is the first time I've coded with these kinds of time restraints and this broad of a set of topics, so organization was more of a problem than I was expecting. From there, learning to use an unfamiliar set of tools for a type of product I have little experience with was also very difficult as more time was consumed learning as we went.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of how much we scraped together in so little time, and in how nice the end product looks compared to what I've been about to achieve in the past.

What I learned

Think quickly and act with confidence. If you don't have an operable product until a few hours before the deadline, it'll be hard to check for bugs or add extra features. In the end, we created a project based on our first real idea, but we could have saved so much time by just acting on it instead of trying to think of alternate ideas.

What's next for COVID-19 Pandemic Defense Game

In our initial conception of the game, we had ideas for more countries, more complex interactions between countries, more actions, and a more realistic and maybe even real-world-data driven consequences for actions chosen. We also had ideas for multiplayer, where two or more players could select countries to play against each other. There's a lot of potential here for us to implement more.
