Inspiration

Due to COVID-19, we were unable to keep ourselves busy and well informed about the world’s current situation. It seemed nearly impossible! Most people’s attention span is about 5-6 minutes only and it takes longer than that to read newspapers and articles. So, a game about the news seems more welcoming than newspapers or articles and it can keep us informed and entertained at the same time during pandemic. It is the best solution that we can think of for these problems

What it does

Our Project is a news game where people answer 4-option multiple choice questions about COVID-19. There are a total of 10 questions that you have to answer. After you answer each question, it tells you if you are right or wrong. It also includes a link to the article where we got that question and answer from so you can read more about it. After the 10 questions, it takes you to the end page, where it tells you your score. From there you can do 4 things:

  1. Go back to the home screen
  2. Retake the Quiz
  3. Go to the CDC website
  4. Go to Worldometers coronavirus info

How I built it

We built this using many coding languages. For the back end (server), we used Python with a framework called Flask. We also used HTML, CSS, W3.CSS, and Bootstrap to style our website, and we used JavaScript to make it interactive. We used Atom, Notepad, Pycharm, and Brackets IDEs to code this as well.

Challenges I ran into

A large complication we had was deciding the problem to solve. In fact, on Saturday morning, we spent an hour and a half deciding what our project could be. Another problem we ran into was sharing our files with each other. In the end we just decided to email all the files to one person who made the whole application work.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of creating the entire game in just one day! We worked till 11 trying to do the best we could on the game and it turned out fantastic! I am also proud of our teamwork when creating this project. We divided the work so we would get done quicker and that really helped.

What I learned

I learned a lot about COVID-19 when I was creating the questions for the game. I also learned how to develop a website as a team and put everyone's work together.

What's next for COVID-19 News Game!

Next for our Game is creating a leaderboard for top-scoring people, and introduce this game to the public to educate them about the news. Also, once COVID-19 is gone, we will change the questions to other news.
