Inspiration

A lot people are seeking information about the Covid-19, but there is such an overload of information in the media, and internet. Each state, county and medical centers have disparate set of information all over the net. If you are someone who is feeling sick and wants to make sure what to do, who to contact and where to get the test, it takes hours of browsing, tons of click and numerous phone calls. With the pandemic reigning the minds and bodies of everyone, it is important to have the right information at the right time that is easily accessible and most importantly actionable, since it’s a matter of human life and safety. The lack of centralized information to any one in immediate need, drove us to build the Hotline Data platform and Hotline App.

What it does

The COVID-19 Hotline App can used to search all the available Drive through test centers near your areas, city and state. 1)You can directly place the hotline call from your app and get more insight or schedule appointments if needed. 2)Simplified user interface provides readable, contextual and validated information. Hotline API enables users to get the information on the available and upcoming Covid-19 Drive through testing sites in US. 3)Data platform with all the drivethrough test centers details which will be made open source for other developers to use and build products.

How I built it

We scraped the data from different sources and created a table in DynamoDB.React app calls a nodeJS service which returns the list of drivethrough locations in the area.

Challenges I ran into

Time management especially as I was working on UX,backend and frontend.To add to it the data ingestion, management and migration activities consumed effort and time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

A working MVC (minimal viable version) of our API allows users to search hotline anytime anywhere. A prototype mock up of UI reflecting intuitive and a useful app.

What I learned

Driving social good is key to greater good of humanity and leveraging our skills and expertise to bring together something that will help the community is highly rewarding. Time management, team coordination and quick decision making is critical.

What's next for covid-19_hotline

  1. Appointments API - The Appointment API of the product will also feature ability to manage user's drive through testing appointment details, pin testing locations.
  2. Appointments Views in Hotline APP.
  3. The Add Hotline API - The Add hotline API will enable crowd sourcing of new drive through test centers that will be routed for validation and eventually available via Hotline API.
