Inspiration
I read a lot of reports on the surge of 911 calls, this inspired me to find a solution and participate in the hackathon contest.
What it does
Our idea involves reducing the no of calls the covid-19 helpline gets in order to avoid people from waiting for a long time. About 80% of people who get Covid-19 experience a mild case – about as serious as a regular cold – and recover without needing any special treatment. We found an innovative idea which will allow this 80 % of the people to use non-traditional means of reporting their symptoms. We will also allow people who need urgent care to be able to send a priority message to the authorities. This will be very useful when the no of cases is very high.
How I built it
We have used HTML, CSS, PHP, and SQL.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into many challenges. One of the major challenges we faced was at the end of day 1, we had to make a major decision on changing the language we had to use. This was a major decision because it involved shifting of roles. Luckily, we made the right call.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The fact that we were successfully able to deliver a prototype within 48 hours and we were among the top 300 teams to be selected is something I'm extremely proud of.
What I learned
We have learned a lot of things. One thing I have learned is that teamwork and greater collaboration will allow us to make amazing products.
What's next for Covid-19 Emergency Software Suite
We would like to allow the emergency service staff members to only be able to view the list of people who are in their respective locations. Ex: Emergency staff of Amsterdam should only be able to view the details of people from Amsterdam. We would also like to add more filters for the general section. This will help the emergency responders to filter people in the general category based on age or symptoms.
