Inspiration DNA Compass is a benefit corporation wanting to enable local/regional genomics security and collaboration tools to speed up discovery.

What it does - We're combining fields - (earth based mapping software disaster recovery tools and the field of bioinformatics). Our tool provides a micro-geocoding service that enables any earth based mapping software to immediately be used to map and manage genomes. So.. entities that currently exchange population health data (i.e. covid-19 case location data) can immediately start sharing genomic data (as secure web services that remain under the entities control)

How I built it - We took chromosome and position data to create an X,Y coordinate that fits within the coordinate system that is used to map the earth. - see DNAcovid-19.com or abcdna.com for prototypes.

Challenges I ran into. - Mapping professionals in population health share data well but aren't confident of their skills in genomics. Genomics researchers have no expertise in mapping software. It's hard to find people with expertise in the two fields.

Accomplishments - Fun. The project has been a lot of fun to work on. I've met incredible people I never would have otherwise had the chance to engage with.

What I learned - Patience. The platform that solves how to manage genomic data needs to emerge out of community need, based on patients working with trusted entities. It takes time to build trust and find what entities and funding sources patients and global governments trust.

What's next for Covid-19 Emergency Federated Genomics Infrastructure, We're taking the 700 genetic risk markers that are associated with Death from Covid-19 (based on UK Biobank data Rivas Lab initial analysis), and wanting to make it so that entities can cheaply compare patients genomes against known death risk variants for Covid-19 to stratify populations by genomic risk.
