  An easy to use beautiful interface to track and bring awareness to COVID-19.

Inspiration

Living in New York - the epicenter of COVID in the USA - the threat of ignoring these pandemics is made real as friends and family begins to fall to the spread of the virus. We wanted to use our software engineering skills to help bring awareness to the dangers of pandemic events to human civilization and the need for all of us to prepare.

What it does

It provides a simple Chrome Extension that once installs show you the top five countries by total cases. It also allows adding other countries of interest in order to track the spread of the virus and its eventual decline.

How I built it

We used web technologies and our knowledge of JSON APIs and Javascript to construct the Chrome Extension.

Challenges I ran into

Finding accurate data and designing an easy to use extension in order to reach the maximum people.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Spending a few days from concept to deployment on the Chrome Store to provide this tool to a broad audience. We can now iterate and add more functionality as the community requests.

What I learned

We did not know how to deploy a Chrome Extension and when we started the USA had 48K confirmed total cases - upon submission two days later the USA passed China and stands at over 120K confirmed cases.

What's next for COVID-19 Corona Virus Tracker

We want to provide a total Global tracker in order to determine from a global perspective when the pandemic begins to peak and decline.
