Inspiration
We were inspired to write this story because it gave us a medium through which we could show how we felt about this pandemic, and we wanted to inform children about the virus in an interesting way that would also shed some light in the midst of a troubling situation. It is clear that the virus has changed our daily lives that we had taken for granted, but despite this, we were inspired to highlight that there are some positive aspects of the virus including spending more time with family.
What it does
This short story shares a day in the life of a young boy named Jack as he goes through a typical day in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It emphasizes steps to stay safe amidst the virus like using masks and maintaining social distance. It also shows that the medical personnel should be appreciated for their hard work.
How I built it
The illustrations and words were created on Paint 3D. The author and the illustrator had many discussions over the past few days as to how the final product would be structured.
Challenges I ran into
It was somewhat difficult to connect the storyline with the illustrations, which resulted in many discussions so that the pictures would accurately depict the story.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
As high school and middle school students we are very proud of our final product, especially the illustrations and how they are able to accurately show what the main character, Jack, is going through amidst a troublesome time.
What I learned
Creating a short picture book directed towards a specific age group is a lot more difficult than I first expected; however, I feel like now we are able to truly understand and create a book tiered for any age group.
