We both wanted to get more hands on experience with coding and doing data analysis. During this pandemic, we wanted to be productive with our times, and as soon as we heard about this opportunity we were inspired to pursue this opportunity. We were originally thinking of using our codes in SQL, but later decided to use R, since we were both more familiar with it.
What it does
We created datasets specific to two major airlines, Delta Air Lines, Inc. and Southwest Airlines Co.
How we built it
We built this project implementing Yahoo Finance datasets into R.
Challenges we ran into
It was challenging to decide how much data we would like to import and what time frame we should use. We decided to focus on having the same time frame in the form of days from when each outbreak began. In addition, we had trouble figuring out which data sets to combine and how we were going to do analysis of it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud to have been able to seek information that reflects people’s uncertainty during these difficult times.
What we learned
We learned how to clean and visualize large amounts of stock data and how to think differently about how people are reacting to this epidemic and the impact it is creating. We also learned how to insert and attach multiple data sets to each other.
What's next for COVID-19 and Ebola Airplane Stocks Analysis
We would like to expand this study to other industries of interest such as the automobile and technology industries.
