Inspiration
COVID-19 is a global crisis that concerns us all. Qatar, and the world, are preparing for an increase in COVID-19 patients and doing everything in its power to coordinate continuity of care in the country. With cases around the world, increasing daily, it is expected that a large portion of world population will be infected in the coming weeks, if nothing is done now. We believe that by increasing the awareness, sharing prevention, updates on COVID-19, and most importantly the support needed, we can limit the extent of destruction COVID-19 may cause and serve Qatar in the fight against this pandemic situation.
What it does
COVI provides valuable features to contain and mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak. It presents information about what is COVID-19, at risk groups, prevention measures, home isolation tips, daily updates on the current situation and number of cases. It allows users to check symptoms and get the adequate response for each scenario. It sends daily messages to users with useful hygiene, social distancing and prevention tips. Content is presented in 5 languages ( most popular in Qatar),in an simple user-friendly way through pictures, texts, and videos.
How I built it
The App is developed in a simple way using Android framework, Android SDK, Firebase, Nearby connection API.
Challenges I ran into
At first circulating the App to reach the majority of the general population was our biggest challenge. Then local entities contributed to this manner and helped in the distribution of the app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
-Our small dedicated bright compassionate team did it! Starting from a simple idea, our team put their heart and soul, working day and night to get this idea delivered in a timely manner. -Several public and private entities supported the app, local companies provided the service to their employees. -The app was offered as a contribution to the community free of charge as Droobi's contribution to help Qatar's community.
What I learned
In times of need, the whole community stands together to get through the pandemic. Everything can be accomplished when there is will power and teamwork.
What's next for COVI
This project is planned to be a solution to protect the health of our entire community (citizens, employers and authorities) during the COVID-19 outbreak and a tool to support the users remain healthy and informed during the pandemic. In order to make the further maximum use of this app for residents and authorities, there needs to be certain enhances and developments that need to be done. This would include critical functionalities that will analyze data and give real time updates for actions to be taken. Our next steps will aim to deliver : new languages to cover majority of Qatar's residents, risk stratification to identify high risk users and support them early, personalized approach to support users's physical and mental health, chat features (text, voice, call in app), and more contents about preventation.
