Inspiration

Given the current circumstances of the world, we wanted to create a project that could help people in various ways. One of the ways in which we did this was by helping people determine the chance they may have COVID. Furthermore, we know that the pandemic has significantly impacted the mental health of people around the world, so we wanted to help in that regard as well. Finally, we included a lot of information about COVID-19 to help educate the public.

What it does

Our main feature is a basic test that could help one determine whether or not they have COVID. This, of course, is simply a suggestion, and not a direct statement that they have COVID. We included a form that would then result in the chance the user has COVID. Next, we have a section for information about COVID, such as how to treat it and more information regarding it. We also have a live case counter, from John Hopkins, integrated onto our webpage. Finally, we have a section with various mental health resources, such as meditation websites, informative PDFs, and wellness YouTube videos. These resources were put together by us, and being all together, make them easily accessible for users. All in all, it is a hub for people to come to to learn more about COVID, learn about their health, and possibly help with their mental health.

How we built it

We built it using HTML and CSS, on a Replit, so we could collaborate in real time.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was probably the time restraints. Given that we had more time, we could definitely expand upon our features, and make them more useful. For instance, the test to determine whether one has COVID or not, currently, is a rather general estimate. However, given more time, we could probably produce more accurate estimates, based on more data, such as the age, gender, temperature, and whether they've been vaccinated. Another challenge that we ran into was that we were all in pretty far apart timezones. For instance, while some members were in GMT-5, some of us were in GMT+9. This made it somewhat difficult for us to all be online at once, working together for long periods of time. However, there were times where all of us were online, and we were able to eventually get our product to work!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of the fact that we were able to complete a project with people we haven't met before, in such a limited amount of time.

What we learned

We learned that time management is a very important thing to focus on, especially in events with such short time limits. Furthermore, we learned that collaboration can come in very useful in group projects like this one.

What's next for CovHelp

As aforementioned, we hope to get the test to provide even more accurate results. That is the biggest improvement we can make for now.
