Inspiration - Laws protecting tenants are not always created equally. Several states (including Arkansas) have very landlord-favorable rental laws. This app aims to not only protect tenant rights but also prevent needless litigation when the landlord realizes how well prepared the tenant is for court.

What it does - The solution includes a web application and a companion mobile application (currently iOS). The tenant signs up and can then enter details about rent agreements and leases with landlords. The application includes tools to document condition of property as well as damage and problems. There are also tools for saving documents to the cloud for a secure backup. The Move Out and Share features allow for the tenant to rate the landlord and also share the collection of documents, images and problems recorded while a tenant. This can be shared via email and is anticipated to go to the landlord himself (to fend off needless litigation) or to an attorney if litigation cannot be avoided.

How we built it - We did this on both web (mobile responsive to cover Android) and also native iOS. It was built with Visual Studio on Windows and Xcode on OS X. We also had an awesome UX/UI designer on the team who did most all the graphics work.

Challenges we ran into - Project scope. As we worked through the initial scope, good ideas came up over and over. We had a tough time managing scope creep and had to let some ideas go for now.

Accomplishments that we're proud of - The UX and UI. We also hit this on two fronts and we worked together extremely well. We made use of all the time we were given.

What we learned - This is something we likely want to finish out. There isn't anything like this right now (that we could find) and we think this could be a great tool to help protect tenants.

What's next for Cover Your Assets - Finish this out!
