I am interested in urban planning and parking minimums!

What it does

Maps out housing density in Syracuse before and after parking minimums were removed in the city center.

How I built it

Using R!

Challenges I ran into

Census data can be very tricky to access, so getting all of the variables I needed took some time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a visual experience that allows one to understand the change in housing density over time!

What we learned

A lot about R and census data!

What's next for Cover Your Asphalt - Parking Minimums in Syracuse

I will also be mapping out the change in housing density in Albany, which still has parking minimums. I will also assign individual census blocks in Syracuse's treatment area to compare to both control blocks in Syracuse and blocks in Albany. This will be a difference-in-differences statistical test.
