Inspiration
This creation was quite obviously inspired by Kojima Productions' Death Stranding, a game about bringing a broken world back together onto a virtual network. I figured it might resonate with us, as we all use the internet for something or other, and a lot would be at stake if it suddenly went away.
How I built it
It was coded in Python and runs using Ren'Py - a Python-based visual novel publishing program. The website was made in github pages and linked to a nice domain courtesy of domain.com!
Challenges I ran into
I had literally never used this program before, or even tried to make a visual novel for that matter.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I actually made something functional, which is a small miracle considering how long it's been since I last used Python. The art style ended up looking kind of cute even though it's just the product of me being strapped for time.
What I learned
Making a game, even a really simple text based one, takes time and a lot of scouring forums to figure out where your code went wrong!
What's next for Cov Stranding
A cease and desist, probably.
Credits
Obviously credits to Kojima Productions for the idea I blatantly parodied. Credits to Pixabay for being a great source of open source images when I was too lazy to draw a background. Thanks to the Ren'Py team for keeping their software open source! Big shout outs to Domain.com for their timely customer support when I needed it (lol).
