Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from the frustration of poor schedule planning after meeting with academic advisors, highlighting the need for a more efficient and personalized solution to streamline course selection and optimize academic progress.
What it does
CourseMatch prompts the user for the University they attend, their major, their interest, and the requirements of their major. Using the user's input, CourseMatch returns a list of recommended Gen Ed classes the student should take.
How we built it
We developed our app by explaining to Party Rock what we wanted it to do and how we wanted it to gather information. We kept refining our prompts and app interface to gather the necessary information effectively. Additionally, we utilized other AI generators to improve our app's prompt codes for smoother operation.
Challenges we ran into
Originally, CourseMatch did not prompt the user for the requirements of their major. This lack of information produced inaccurate results. For example, classes that did not fit the student's requirements were supplied as answers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our creative idea to improve college life for students like us. We're excited to help students pick general education courses that meet their requirements and explore their passions.
What we learned
During this process, we learned to adjust our prompts to make our app more efficient and accurate. By including various instructions and user prompts, we enhanced the app's performance. This taught us the vital balance between creating a user-friendly interface and gathering enough information for accuracy.
What's next for CourseMatch
Moving forward, CourseMatch hopes to provide even more help to the students scheduling processes. Possible ideas include prompting the user for gen ed requirements they have already fulfilled, to allow the app to produce even more accurate and helpful results.
