Inspiration
As a freelance consultant, I watched peers struggle to turn their expertise into online courses—hours lost to curriculum design, tech hurdles, and monetization guesswork. I wanted to build a tool that cuts through the noise, making course creation fast and accessible for every expert, not just tech-savvy creators.
What it does
CourseCreator AI is a SaaS platform that guides users through a seamless workflow: input your expertise, generate a structured course outline, auto-create lesson content/slides/quizzes, get platform recommendations (Teachable, Udemy, Kajabi), and build a tailored monetization strategy—all in 48 hours. It also includes an AI chatbot for student support to reduce workload.
How we built it
We started with core workflow mapping (sequential stages: input → outline → content → platform → monetization) to ensure logical user flow. We used Python/OpenAI API for AI content generation, React for the frontend, Node.js for backend logic, and Stripe for payment processing. AWS hosted the platform, with PostgreSQL for user/course data storage.
Challenges we ran into
Early on, AI outline generation was inconsistent—we had to refine prompts to align with different expertise levels and audience types. We also faced payment tier logic hurdles (subscription vs one-time access controls) and had to build strict sequential workflow rules to prevent broken user journeys.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a fully functional platform where users can go from zero to a publishable course in days, not weeks. The AI student support chatbot reduces creator workload by handling routine queries, and our platform recommendation engine is tailored to real creator goals (branding, reach, sales).
What we learned
We learned that user-centric workflow design is critical—sequential, guided steps reduce friction far more than open-ended tools. We also discovered that AI content generation works best when grounded in clear business rules (e.g., outline approval before content creation).
What's next for this project
We plan to add deeper analytics for course performance, integrate direct publishing to hosting platforms, and expand AI customization for content styles. We’re also exploring mobile optimization to make course creation accessible on-the-go for busy creators.
