Inspiration
Our tream was frusterated by how difficult it is to plan your degree, given how difficult the UBC degree navigator interface is to use.
What it does
Degree navigator is designed to be a tool that allowes the user to keep track of courses they've taken, courses they still need to take, and prerequisites for those required courses. Its designed to be an easy to use interface, allowing for the easiest course planning.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design a webpage.
Challenges we ran into
None of our team had any experience with web design, so the experience was all a learning process. Originally, we planned on coding this in Java and having a full prototype in Figma, but we ended up scraping that idea about halfway into the project. Pivoting so late didn't leave us a lot of time to figure everything else out, so it was diffcult to learn and apply these new languages under such a time crunch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how much we were able to get done, given our experience and the time constraints. Despite all the setbacks, we still got a good start of a fully working version, and completed a lot of the visual design aspects.
What we learned
As previously stated, none of us had any prior experience coding in HTML, CSS, or JavaScript, so our whole team learned all of these languages.
What's next for Course Compass
We are looking to improve our functionality to get everything up and running.
