Inspiration
๐ก High school is stressful enough. Course choices are important decisions that high school students make that have the possibility to impact their entire lives. With university admissions getting increasingly more competitive, wise decisions regarding course selection is integral. Often high school students have to go scavenging to find information about courses making the process unnecessarily hard.
What it does
๐ Our product allows students to have access to all available courses in one place. Schools can set up the courses they can offer by completing one simple form which, in turn allows students to use our product as a catalogue and โgo shoppingโ for their education. Course Chekr creates a one-stop shop for all your course selection needs.
How we built it
๐ป This project was done using HTML and CSS. Figma was utilized for prototyping earlier on in the hackathon.
Challenges we ran into
๐ท We did run into a few bugs while completing the project. We faced some difficulty in the constraints of the form and dropdown menu, as we found a small change would dramatically change where everything was positioned. In the start since we both had not touched web development in years, we had to review a lot of content that had slipped out of our mind. In retrospect, we are both glad that we took this decision, as taking a risk in doing something that we hadnโt done in years was quite the learning experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
๐ซ We are proud of creating a product that can be utilized by the people around us. Since we are both high school students, we have firsthand seen how stressful course selection can be. Creating a solution to a problem that not only helps us but the people around us is very fulfilling.
๐จ We are also proud of a clean UI design. Since neither of us have much experience in incorporating visually appealing UI into our websites, it was definitely a challenge to give the website a comforting feel. Luckily in the end we were able to gain some experience in creating engaging web user interfaces.
What we learned
๐ฅ This project allowed us to review some of the fundamentals of web development that we have not touched for years. We also got the experience to create a full-fledged product in 36 hours, something which requires high levels of preparation and dedication. Additionally, we got experience in QA Testing through testing for bugs and project management by guiding each other.
What's next for Course Chekr: The High School Course Manager
๐ There are still a few features we would have liked to implement in Course Chekr if time had permitted. Firstly, we wanted to add filters that could make finding the courses you are interested in easier. Whether it be a search engine or a filter that could shorten a list of hundreds of courses, a feature like that would be really beneficial in a product like ours. In the future, we are interested in expanding this product and potentially having it tested in a few schools. A experience like this would give us insight into the positives and negatives of Course Chekr while also testing its success in the market.
