Inspiration
I was inspired by Rebecca Louise’s prompt to build an app for busy moms who are trying to stay on budget. Money management feels personal to me because I grew up in a large family with six kids, where budgeting and saving were part of everyday life. I wanted to build something that helps moms feel empowered to take financial control, save money, find coupons, and make smarter financial decisions.
What it does
Coupon Momma helps busy moms manage household finances in one place. The app includes a content-driven blog with practical money-saving guidance, a coupons tab with exclusive discount codes for popular retailers, and a budgeting tab where users can create a monthly budget and view simple investment growth projections.
How we built it
Coupon Momma is a native iOS app built in Swift, using Cursor to accelerate development and iteration. The app uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and handle payments for monthly access to premium blog content, allowing us to focus on product development while relying on a proven billing and entitlement system.
Challenges we ran into
Scoping the MVP was one of the biggest challenges. There were many additional features we wanted to build, including a community forum for moms and video content, but we had to be intentional about prioritization to ship on time. Balancing feature depth with usability and development constraints required constant tradeoffs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of delivering a focused, end-to-end product that combines content, coupons, and financial tools in a cohesive experience. Successfully integrating subscriptions and gating premium content while maintaining a simple user experience was a major accomplishment.
What we learned
We learned that technical decisions directly impact usability, especially for non-technical users. Keeping the architecture simple and the UX clear helped us move faster and deliver a more approachable product.
What's next for Coupon Momma
Next, we plan to add a community forum for moms to engage with each other, introduce video content from mom influencers, and explore a local giveaway feature for sharing unused items like baby clothes and supplies. We also want to continue iterating on the UI, improving performance and polish before launching to the App Store.
