Inspiration
I got the inspiration for this project when I was looking back at old photos of myself, and I saw a picture of me in the Grand Canyon, and I wondered, how cool would it be to drive in the Grand Canyon, thus I got the idea and implemented it in this Hackathon.
What it does
It's a video game where you play as a buggy driving around a canyon, maneuvering around rocks, and trying to go through a track in time, there are checkpoints which give you extra time, which you can only get if you reach them in time.
How we built it
I built the game using Unreal Engine, with its node system, which doesn't have any text code, rather they're like blocks, which you can connect each other with using wires, this doesn't make it any less difficult though, as still you have to think of creative solutions for your issue.
Challenges we ran into
The challenge that I specifically ran into was just learning how the node system worked, and how unreal itself worked, because this is the first time that I've used it, and I had to both learn how to use it, and use it, which was very challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is my first game, ever, I learnt how to use unreal, I learn how to use the node system, I learn how to make a UI, and so many new things about game development which just gets me excited to learn more.
What we learned
As I said before I have learnt how to use unreal, the node system and so many other things around game development.
What's next for Countdown Canyon
Even if I don't win, I'll still be making games, and adding on to this game, as I think there are so many things I can do with, I let my parents play it and they were so happy when they were playing it, and that inspired me, so I want to make more games, and learn more about unreal, and further develop Countdown Canyon and make it so much bigger, as currently, it's only one level, with 1 car, and 1 installment. There are so many things up ahead.....
Extras
Additionally I have added a github repository with all the "code" for the project, and although you can't play the game, there will be video of game the published. If you really want to play the game I will send it to you, as the file is too large for nay platform to accept, in the given timeframe.
