Inspiration
The inspiration for Counslor stemmed from a vision to simplify and enhance school administration. We noticed the challenges schools face in juggling multiple tasks like managing student information, tracking payments, and organizing daily schedules. We wanted to create a tool that acts as a reliable right-hand advisor for schools, empowering administrators with intuitive features and AI-powered tools.
What it does
Counslor is a comprehensive school management platform designed to:
- Manage student and teacher profiles with ease.
- Organize daily tasks and events via an interactive calendar.
- Track student attendance using AI-powered OCR and face recognition.
- Handle payments with transparency, allowing detailed financial oversight.
- Send automated emails to parents, teachers, and students through the Gemini API.
- Enable customization and efficiency with secure local data storage.
How we built it
We used Flutter for the frontend to ensure a smooth cross-platform experience and Hive for local storage, providing fast, offline-ready performance. For the AI features:
- OpenCV and Tesseract OCR were integrated for analyzing attendance sheets.
- Face_recognition library streamlined accurate student attendance verification.
- The Gemini API was implemented for email automation.
Our backend relied on a structured system to handle data synchronization and manage workflows seamlessly.
Challenges we ran into
- Ensuring high accuracy in OCR and face recognition was a technical hurdle that required extensive testing and fine-tuning.
- Designing a user-friendly yet feature-packed interface was challenging, balancing simplicity with functionality.
- Synchronizing local data storage and online operations without compromising performance posed logistical challenges.
- Integrating automation tools like the Gemini API while maintaining data security and scalability.
