Inspiration
Because of the current controversial social climate tiring out our students, the pandemic taking a huge toll on students' personal lives, and the abrupt change to virtual learning being a major adjustment, we wanted to create a tool that helped to check up on and aid in MCPS’s health. Additionally, because of the stigma surrounding mental health, many students are afraid or embarrassed to speak to their counselors about issues concerning their personal life. This project seeks to help these students open up and relieve some of their mental stress.
What it does
This hack connects counselors to students across MCPS while maintaining the anonymity of the students. It also provides additional resources for students including information on depression/anxiety and links to stress-relieving tests, DIYs, and Youtube Videos.
How I built it
We built this website using a combination of HTML and CSS code.
Challenges I ran into
A majority of our group was not familiar with HTML or CSS before we began coding. We had a difficult time learning all the tags and attributes. Towards the beginning of the hack we also had difficulty bringing our idea to life through our website.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Despite never having made a website before, our group made a properly functioning and aesthetically pleasing site.
What I learned
Through this experience we learned how to build a website using HTML code. We also learned about some of the difficulties of web development.
What's next for Counselor Connect
We hope to continue this project in the future and dedicate our time to making this project a fully functioning website.
