Inspiration

The chaotic process of choosing AI tools and models slows down innovation. We wanted to transform the journey—making discovery data-driven, sustainable, and fun.

What it does

VibeTool Scout + CostLab scouts and ranks coding tools with AI, comparing them by cost, performance, sustainability, and developer vibe. The dashboard helps you pick the smartest, greenest stack, fast.

How we built it

We integrated Perplexity’s Deep Search API for tool discovery, designed agentic workflows for analysis, and built CostLab’s engine to track real-time metrics on spend, latency, and carbon footprint. The dashboard uses Next.js—with D3 for dynamic data visualization.

Challenges we ran into

• Gathering and normalizing real-world benchmarking data • Quantifying “community vibe” in a reproducible way • Ensuring agentic reasoning scales across new tool launches

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

• Working prototype that benchmarks cost × vibe × sustainability • First live vibe index for coding tools and models • Seamless dashboard merging technical insights and community feel

What’s next for CostLab: VibeTool Scout

We’ll add developer leaderboards, agent feedback, and custom workflow benchmarking. Future updates will make AI stack decisions even more transparent, fast, and “vibe-first.”
