Inspiration
CostcoOh was born from our love of Costco runs and the fun of guessing how much our carts would total. We wanted to turn that excitement into a daily, shareable game — like Wordle, but for prices — and make it accessible worldwide.
What it does
CostcoOh is a daily price-guessing game for Costco items. Users guess the price of featured items in their local currency, earn points for accuracy, and compete with friends. Players can also add their own custom Costco finds to challenge others.
How we built it
Frontend: React + TailwindCSS for a clean, responsive, mobile-first UI
Backend: Express for game logic and leaderboard handling
Database: Redis for storing items, guesses, and custom challenges
Challenges we ran into
Getting accurate and timely price data for multiple regions
Handling currency conversion without making gameplay unfair
Designing a UI that felt playful yet competitive
Moderating user-submitted items to prevent spam or trolling
