Inspiration
Our aim was to make everyday tasks more fun to organise and complete through a fun, space exploration game.
What it does
Allows the user to organize and complete to-do tasks getting space-themed rewards for real life progress.
How we built it
We started by making a rough action plan outlining the basic features we wanted our app to have. We then started coding, initially setting up a blank page and gradually adding features, fixing any bugs and evolving our ideas on the go to make the best use of our time taking into consideration any limitations imposed by the programming language and Winforms.
Challenges we ran into
When tasks were added to the "current missions section" and the user navigated to a different section, the tasks would disappear. When the colour-coded tasks were marked complete then incomplete, they initially didn't revert to their assigned colour. Navigating the unfamiliar syntax of Winforms also posed some challenges along the way, requiring regular consultations with ChatGPT for guidance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Synthesising an idea and starting to implement it in such a short space of time.
What we learned
The more experienced hackers in the team were able to mentor those with less experience by explaining their though process while coding, enabling them to solidify their understanding while improving that of those less experienced/less familiar with the programming language.
What's next for CosmoTrack
We would like to further develop the ''Into the cosmos' section of our app to enable the user to explore the different planets in our solar system by earning credit for completed tasks. This section would include images of the planets and a little rocket to symbolise the user. As more and more tasks are complete, the rocket would move closer and closer to the next planet eventually landing. We would also like to add more cosmetic features such as a progress bar across the top showing how many of the planets have already been explored and which planets are left with a little rocket moving across to again, visually depict how far along the space exploration journey the user acting as a visual reminder hopefully motivating the user to continue completing their tasks and exploring. Further down the line, we would also like to add the ability to explore other celestial objects further beyond our solar system and introduce collectibles that can be obtained from exploration also with the hopes of encouraging the user to keep doing their tasks in order to get all the collectibles. Additionally, we would like enable the user to share their space exploration journey with friends by introducing "clans" enabling many to come together and compete against other teams by completing the most tasks and travelling to the furthest galaxies complete with weekly leaderboards and rewards for the bravest explorers.
