Inspiration

Cosmos was inspired by the idea that memory isn't static, changing over time and shaped by emotion, reflection, and reinterpretation. In terms of design, I took inspiration from the game Sky: Children of the Light to create a UI that invokes a calm and gentle atmosphere and encourages exploration and emotion connection.

I wanted to move away from productivity-driven apps that treat memories as items to store and check off. To achieve this, I designed an experience where returning feels natural rather than something driven by notifications or streaks.

What it does

Cosmos reimagines personal memory as a living, evolving universe, where memories are represented by stars that exist within emotion-based galaxies. Each memory moves in orbit over time, with those in the inner orbit representing recent or meaningful memories, and those in the outer orbits representing memories that are distant and fading. Memories can change galaxies as their meaning evolves, and users can layer reflections onto memories, allowing them to grow over time.

A lunar rhythm system replaces notifications to encourage users to create new memories, reflect on old ones, or let go of memories that aren't of importance anymore. A guide character, inspired by the figures in Sky: Children of the Light, introduces new users to different parts of the experience and acts as a gentle, persistent companion within the lunar rhythm system, offering soft prompts and messages of encouragement during different lunar phases.

How we built it

I built Cosmos by using Figma Design/Prototype and Procreate for custom assets.

Challenges we ran into

I was not at all familiar with Figma Prototype, and I was short on time due to some personal emergencies, but I still wanted to try my hand in learning the new tool and seeing what I can implement with the little time I had! I have definitely spent a good chunk of my time trying things that did and didn't work, and created objects that didn't end up in the final project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think I am actually most proud of having come up with the project idea and plan itself, and will likely continue building and improving this project in the future when I have time, since I wasn't able to complete it fully within the time scope of the designathon. The project provided me an opportunity to showcase both my ideation and design skills, and I hope I was able to show at least a little bit of both in the project I built for CreateSC.

What we learned

I learned a lot about Figma Prototype, and would like to learn more about how to properly and efficiently use this tool of Figma I haven't explored before.

What's next for Cosmos

Finalizing the UI/UX design of the website, and building a functional version of the project, both front-end and back-end. If time allows, also adding more animations to to the website, specifically to the avatar, to make everything feel more alive.
