A lot of people including myself, complain about late payment of salaries, or you hear owners of small businesses complain about the hassle of handling payments of their employees. This got me thinking, why not build a solution were select parts of the processes of salary payment can be done with just the push of a button. This removes the hassle on the employers and quickens payments to employees.

What it does

An employer uploads the payroll for the given period to the system via an excel sheet, this has the information of the employees, number of hours worked and amount per hour, Prior to this, the employees should be onboarded unto the system for the system to match info. The employer then makes a one time payment to a pocket account that would be already created upon onboarding and can pay the salaries to the bank accounts of the employees uploaded. The employer can view payroll information, paid and unpaid, transaction history and employees can view and export their payrolls

How we built it

Cosmic payroll System was built using .Net core web API, Microsoft SQL Database, EntityFramework Core, Seerbit Payment, Seerbit Pocket for employers to fund.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges, and we hope to solve more as time goes on. just to mention a few, the seerbit SDK version for .net is outdated, this took a while for the team to migrate or update it to a more recent version. Another challenge was, as much as we tried to automate some processes, there still needed to human intervention, for example, the employer still has to collate the information before uploading.

We are proud that we gave life to an idea, proud to be able to recognize a problem and try to solve, and solving most of our challenges.

What we learned

There is always a solution to a problem, and we are happy to be a solution provider to this problem.

What's next for Cosmic Payroll System

We intend to go back to the drawing board, figure processes that can be further automated, also get funding.
