🚀 My Hackathon Project: A Mission to Spark Space Dreams

Ever since I was little, I’ve been obsessed with space. I’d stare at the night sky for hours, wondering what it’d be like to live somewhere else. Neptune always stood out to me 🌊🪐. Don’t get me wrong, Earth is great and all… but there’s just something about Neptune. The color, the storms, the mystery of it. I used to imagine having a little space house up there.

As a kid, though, I always wished there was a more fun and interactive way to learn about space. Reading walls of black-and-white Wikipedia text just didn’t do it for me.

🌌 The Lightbulb Moment

A few weeks ago, I was hanging out with one of my best friends when their little brother showed up in an adorable astronaut suit 👨‍🚀. He wanted to play a space game with us, and it immediately brought me back to my own childhood days. That moment made something click.

Kids still love space - but learning about it hasn’t gotten any more exciting.

✏️ Sketching the Vision

So the three of us sat down and started sketching. What would make learning about space actually fun? What would a curious kid enjoy and understand? What would make them want to keep exploring?

After around ten hours of sketching, refining, and asking a lot of questions, we landed on a design. Something colorful, easy to use, and packed with real knowledge that didn’t feel boring.

🛠️ How We Built It

We started development using Love2D for its lightweight framework and flexibility with interactive graphics and animation. Combined with our own CSS knowledge and experience from CS courses, we created a layout that’s both clean and fun to explore. We focused on smooth navigation, touch-friendly design, and added playful transitions that would keep younger users engaged. It wasn’t just about code - it was about crafting an experience.

🌠 More Than Just a Project

To me, this isn’t just a hackathon app - it’s a mission.

So many kids say they want to be astronauts when they grow up. While I can’t help them launch into space (yet), I can give them something that makes them fall in love with space the way I did.

And maybe - just maybe - one of them will be the one who really does make it to Neptune someday. 💙🛰️
