Cosmic Connections

Inspiration

Cosmic Connections was inspired by the idea that every person carries a story, and even the most different experiences can overlap in meaningful ways. We wanted to create something that makes those connections visible, turning abstract emotions and memories into something you can actually explore. The night sky became our metaphor, where each story is a star and shared experiences form constellations.

What it does

Cosmic Connections is an interactive website where users explore and share personal stories through a night sky interface. Each story appears as a star, and users can click on them to read different experiences. As they explore, they can connect stories based on shared emotions or themes, forming constellations. Users can also contribute their own stories, adding new stars to the sky. Over time, the space grows into a collective map of human experiences that people can navigate and relate to.

How we built it

We built Cosmic Connections using TypeScript, HTML and CSS to create a smooth and visually engaging experience. TypeScript helped us manage logic for connecting stories and navigating between them, while CSS allowed us to design a calm, immersive interface that reflects the feeling of a night sky. Stories are mapped as interactive points, and users can explore by clicking and forming their own paths.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was turning an emotional and abstract idea into something functional without losing its meaning. It was also difficult to design navigation that felt natural while still being unique. Balancing visual design with performance, and ensuring the experience stayed intuitive, took a lot of iteration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of how we turned a simple idea into something meaningful and interactive. Taking something as personal and abstract as human experiences and representing it visually as a shared night sky felt challenging at first, but we were able to create something that feels both intuitive and impactful.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how to translate an abstract concept into an interactive digital experience. We improved our skills in structuring user interactions, organizing dynamic data, and designing with intention. We also learned how important simplicity is when presenting something complex like human emotion and storytelling.

What's next for Cosmic Connections

In the future, we hope to build a stronger sense of community by allowing users to interact more, whether that’s through shared constellations, reactions, or collaborative storytelling. We also want to make the platform more accessible across devices, so the experience feels seamless anywhere.
