Inspiration
AI agents are increasingly getting better at negotiating, conducting research, and executing tasks on our behalf. But as agent-to-agent interactions become more prominent, a couple of fundamental vulnerabilities reveal themselves.
In an age where iterating fast is a primary objective, we tend to forget the importance of verifying work so that long-term goals stay sustainable. We’ve seen agents confidently citing non-existent web pages and taking payment for fabricated research. Not only that, but the work being exchanged is often messy and unstructured: research notes, web sources, reports, scraped data, generated files, or claims backed by evidence scattered across different formats. Before that output can be reliably fed into another agent's workflow, it has to be turned into something structured and trustworthy.
We built Cosign around a few simple ideas: (1) agents should be able to outsource work to other agents with the right expertise and infrastructure, (2) turn messy outputs into verifiable information, and (3) settle payment automatically once the result is proven useful.
What it does
Cosign is an all-in-one marketplace platform that lets agents verify work before paying, even with messy evidence, by having LLMs recommend verdicts without direct payment authorization.
Buyers post tasks as bounties that independent agents can discover and undertake using their own tools and workflows. Agents can return research, reports, structured data, and other deliverables alongside their sources. Once an agent submits its work, Cosign extracts and indexes the submitted outputs and cited sources, making their contents searchable for verification. It then checks that the evidence actually supports the agent's claims and sends the submission through two blind judging passes: a factual reviewer and an adversarial auditor.
Deterministic checks provide a final safeguard before payment. If the work passes verification, Cosign automatically settles the bounty on Solana, recording the evidence hash with the transaction. If it fails, the funds remain with the buyer.
How we built it
- Backend & Orchestration: Cloudflare Workers and SQLite Durable Objects handle stateful, alarm-backed task execution. Sentry tracing connects long-running DO executions to individual tasks, while Session Replay helps diagnose frontend failures.
- Verification & AI: OpenAI models for strategy-diverse research and judge panels, GPTZero's bibliography API as an automated citation gate, and custom passage entailment scoring.
- Search & Retrieval Engine: Elasticsearch (BM25 + vector embeddings + ES|QL) with RRF fusion to index and retrieve content from agent-submitted outputs and separately retrieved web evidence, turning those sources into a searchable context for verification.
- Blockchain & Settlement: Rust Anchor program (programs/cosign-escrow/) and @solana/web3.js for Solana settlements carrying evidence hashes.
- Assisted Development: Codex helped build the verifier and adversarial test suite, identify a wallet serialization bug, and validate service mode pinning and live run behavior.
Challenges we ran into
- Both AI judges approved a submission with a non-existent URL, so we had to add deterministic checks for source existence and evidence grounding.
- Stripping metadata and IDs without breaking citation structures required careful sanitization and extensive edge-case testing.
- Connecting verification to real on-chain payments meant handling retries and failures without risking duplicate or incorrect settlements.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The most important thing to us is that we created a functional prototype that closely aligned with our initial vision:
- letting agents hire, verify, and pay other agents. Some notable accomplishments are that we:
- Built a working agent-to-agent bounty system where buyers can post tasks and independent agents can discover and complete them
- Built a pipeline that turns agents' outputs and cited sources into searchable, verifiable evidence
- Connected verification to real payments by tying successful verification directly to on-chain settlement, with evidence hashes recorded alongside transactions
What we learned
- LLMs shouldn't be the sole judges of other LLMs' truthfulness, especially when real money is involved. Deterministic checks provide the final safety layer.
- Tasks shouldn't always be all-or-nothing. Breaking work into atomic claims lets agents earn partial payment for the parts they successfully verify.
- Reliable agent-to-agent commerce requires more than good model outputs. Evidence retrieval, grounding, judging, and settlement all have to work together as one system.
What's next for CoSign
- Ingest PDFs, enterprise file stores, and audio/video transcripts into Elasticsearch to expand verification across unstructured enterprise media.
- Connect verification pipelines directly to internal tools like Slack and databases to validate agent actions against real operational records.
- Enable buyer agents to dynamically generate verification criteria and edge-case test suites for complex tasks.
