Inspiration

Donor‑funded infrastructure projects often struggle with fragmented compliance records, weak oversight, and limited transparency in sustainability reporting. Inspired by these challenges, I wanted to demonstrate how blockchain can serve not only as a technical tool but as a cultural commitment to integrity and trust.

What it does

The COS™ Blockchain Tracker integrates the Compliance, Oversight, and Sustainability (COS™) framework with blockchain logging to create immutable, verifiable audit trails. Each governance milestone is recorded on the Polkadot Westend/Paseo testnets using system.remark extrinsics, producing Tx IDs that serve as audit‑ready references. This ensures donor trust, reduces risks for project managers, and assures communities of ethical and sustainable project delivery.

How we built it

Designed the COS™ framework as the governance backbone. Used Polkadot.js Apps with Westend/Paseo testnets to log compliance events. Managed accounts via Talisman Wallet for demo submissions. Verified Tx IDs, block numbers, and accounts through the Polkadot Explorer. Structured documentation in GitHub and minted a Zenodo DOI for reproducibility. Produced a demo video to showcase functionality and impact.

Challenges we ran into

Troubleshooting wallet/account creation under deadline pressure. Ensuring audit‑ready proofs with real Tx IDs. Balancing technical execution with ethics‑first storytelling. Designing metadata for multi‑purpose use (hackathon, PhD, training, monetization).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully logged multiple governance events on‑chain with verifiable Tx IDs. Published a working paper with a DOI for academic and professional citation. Created a demo video and repository that judges, reviewers, and trainees can replicate. Positioned COS™ as a pathfinder for ethics‑first governance innovation.

What we learned

How Polkadot’s ecosystem can be leveraged for compliance and governance use cases beyond finance. The importance of reproducibility through GitHub + Zenodo integration. That blockchain proofs can strengthen cultural commitments to integrity, not just technical systems.

What's next for COS™ Blockchain Tracker: Ethics‑First Compliance Logging

Pilot deployment with a donor agency in 2026. Development of CM Academy training modules. Scaling into a global certification ecosystem for ethics‑first governance. Expanding the demo into a SaaS dashboard for compliance and ESG reporting.
