🌟 Inspiration Every corporate employee has stared blankly at the "Reason for Leave" box, typed and deleted "personal reasons" four times, and finally submitted something painfully boring. We've all been there. We built CorporateEscape because taking a day off shouldn't require a creative writing degree — but it absolutely should be entertaining.
💼 What it does CorporateEscape generates hilariously convincing, oddly professional leave excuses tailored to your situation. Pick your leave type — sick, casual, or emergency — dial your desperation level from chill to full meltdown, and get three ready-to-copy excuses complete with an email subject line, a believable reason, and a suspiciously accurate believability score. One click. Zero guilt.
🛠️ How we built it Built using MeDo as the app framework and powered by Claude (Anthropic) under the hood. We crafted a carefully unhinged system prompt that instructs the AI to rotate between absurd, sarcastic, and dramatic tones — while keeping outputs corporate enough to actually fool HR. The UI keeps it dead simple: two inputs, one button, three excuses.
🧱 Challenges we ran into Getting the AI to be funny and believable at the same time was harder than expected. Too absurd and it's useless. Too realistic and it's just boring. Nailing that sweet spot — where the excuse sounds like something a real (but slightly unwell) employee would write — took serious prompt engineering and a lot of laughing at our own outputs.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of The believability score feature. Watching the AI rate its own excuses with deadpan commentary like "7/10 — bold, but your manager has heard worse" felt like unlocking something special. Also proud of how naturally it picked up Indian corporate culture references without being told explicitly every time.
📚 What we learned Prompt design is product design. The entire personality of CorporateEscape lives in a single system prompt — tone, format, culture, humor. Getting that right taught us how much creative direction matters when building AI-powered products. Also: people will test any excuse generator with the most unhinged scenarios possible.
