While talking with organizers of this very event, we learned that over 40% of attendees canceled ahead of time, many due to fears over the potential spread of coronavirus. Additionally, the media has run rampant recently with intense stories of forced quarantines, isolated cruise ships, and the dangerous spread of fake news. We decided to make a website that tracks cases of coronavirus. Coronalert provides an opportunity for people to alert others when a case of coronavirus or a nearby exposure to coronavirus occurs. People can drop a pin when there is a case of coronavirus in their vicinity so that others will know about it. In addition, it provides some basic information about what coronavirus is, and some symptoms. We built this project using our very limited knowledge of HTML and CSS, with the help of W3schools. We used the Google API in order to import google maps into our project and access the location of the computer to help the user pinpoint their location for it to be easier to drop their pins. We initially struggled a lot with importing the google API, and figuring out how to add pins to the map. However, with the help of some online research, we managed to add it to our website, and it is definitely the highlight of our project. We are also very proud of the logo that James created. Ultimately, we learned a lot about HTML and CSS, and how to utilize our online resources. In the future, we hope to be able to add a community bulletin board for people to discuss with each other, sharing concerns, and asking and answering questions.
