As the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic spread globally, so did the fake news that keep getting more and more shocking with each day that passes. We bet you heard that 5G causes Covid-19 at least once during the past months, that's obviously not true and is nothing more than a media stunt that causes panic amongst people.
What it does
CoronaCast aims to be a reliable source of information by combating the evergrowing mass of fake news that is constantly released through the media. We provide videos and posts to keep people updated on the current situation of the pandemic.
How we built it
The most important thing in our work is making the difference between a trustworthy source and one that spreads misleading information. Most of the content of our videos and posts is based on scientific articles published in journals such as Science or Nature.
Challenges we ran into
The most difficult part of our work is presenting facts and data in an attractive manner that keeps our audience engaged and interested.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The information we provide is complex and simple at the same time, even though we are especially targeting a young public, we try to make science accessible for audiences of all kinds, regardless of age or level of knowledge.
What we learned
In the making of our videos and posts, we often find ourselves surprised by the interesting things that we uncover by continuously researching and browsing various websites.
What's next for CoronaCast
While humanity dedicates its best efforts to ease the current situation, the damage done by fake news might be overlooked. We want to help in any way possible and the next step for us would be to translate our content to English and adapt it to be relevant for a broader audience, all while permanently creating new content. Science never stops!
