Inspiration

The idea for "Cornfed" sprang from a fascination with classic TV sitcoms that featured larger-than-life male leads who embodied a mix of humor, heart, and everyday relatability. Shows like King of Queens with Kevin James, Mike & Molly starring Billy Gardell, and even older gems like The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason inspired me to craft lyrics celebrating the "cornfed" archetype—robust, down-to-earth guys navigating life's absurdities with wit and warmth. Collaborating with Grok, we brainstormed lyrics that captured this essence, turning it into a fun, upbeat anthem about embracing one's size and spirit in a world obsessed with perfection.

What it does

How we built it

The project started with lyric creation in collaboration with Grok. We iterated on verses and choruses via back-and-forth discussions, refining rhymes and themes to fit a catchy, folk-rock vibe. Once the lyrics were solidified, I used PixVerse to generate video clips based on prompts like "oversized man dancing joyfully in a Midwestern farm setting" and "humorous TV-style scenes with exaggerated props." This produced a series of AI-generated visuals that captured the song's playful energy. Next, I imported the clips into DaVinci Resolve for editing. I synced the footage to an audio track (using placeholder music initially, then layering in vocals), applied transitions, adjusted pacing for comedic timing, and added effects like slow-motion for emphasis on key lyrics. The final output was a short music video that brought "Cornfed" to life, blending AI-generated absurdity with professional polish.

Challenges we ran into

One major hurdle was ensuring the AI-generated videos from PixVerse aligned with the lyrics' tone—early outputs were too surreal or off-model, requiring multiple regenerations and refined prompts to get the "cornfed" characters looking authentic without veering into caricature. Syncing audio in DaVinci Resolve proved tricky, especially matching beats to visual cues in a fast-paced song, which led to several rounds of re-editing to avoid lag or mismatched energy. Collaboration added its own twists: translating abstract inspirations into concrete lyrics meant overcoming creative differences, like debating rhyme schemes for authenticity. Technical glitches, such as export issues in Resolve due to high-res AI files, ate up time, but troubleshooting forums and tutorials helped. In the end, these challenges made the project more rewarding, pushing me to adapt and refine my workflow.
