The Story of Building CornerMarket

Inspiration

The idea for CornerMarket was inspired by the struggles of small businesses amid the pandemic and high inflation. We wanted to leverage blockchain technology to help local merchants connect better with customers and build a thriving local economy.

Learnings

Through this project, we learned:

• Small businesses' cost structure
• Users experience matters when dealing with web3 apps, like gas-free feature
• Onboarding users in a decentralized way with phone login and social recovery
• People have needs for privacy commerce

The Process

Right now we are live on Polygon and BNB chain. We have 1000+ initial testing users.

For the mobile app, we used React Native to allow cross-platform iOS and Android development. The app has been launched on both the App Store and Google Play.

The smart contracts were written in Solidity and deployed to Polygon and BNB Chain for multichain support. The contracts also have been audited by several well-known blockchain audit companies.

Expanding Permit2 removed the need for on-chain approvals and enabled gasless transactions while integrating multiple On-Ramp vendors to support dozens of fiat and various chains and cryptocurrencies. We focused on simplifying the Web3 experience for merchants and users.

Challenges

Some challenges we faced:

• Abstracting away blockchain complexity for users
• Scaling while maintaining decentralization
• Building with emerging standards like account abstraction

Next Plans

Our plans for the future include:

Integrate with Sapphire Privacy layer to protect user's privacy Issuing platform NFTs to achieve discounts Launching community loans to support small business startups Expanding to support more public blockchains

Overall it was a great learning experience! We're proud to have built one of the simplest crypto-commerce platforms out there.
