Inspiration

Elderly people who feel lonely and bored have a high probability of experiencing health problems such as depression, Alzheimer's, and others. It's also difficult for dependent children to continue to care for the elderly. There are lots of senior healthcare systems with IoT systems these days. However, the ones with sensors and cameras can make users (seniors) feel like they're being watched, which can be a turn-off. Moreover, research shows that 56.4% of seniors aged 65 and older are not familiar with digital technology, such as using smartphones or tablet PCs. Instead, we found that older adults watch TV most of the time, and we wanted to transfer this as an opportunity for them to interact with it.

What it does

That is why we developed Cori, a personalized healthcare companion that uses AI Quiz to learn about an older adult's health profile and recommends activities to improve their well-being. It integrates with a TV monitor and speaker, guiding users through activities through voice interaction and helpful advanced features such as watching videos and telling their thoughts, testing their memory+@ that can prevent senior's health problems in advance. When Cori asks questions, users will answer through a connected speaker, and they are converted to text and saved in the cloud system.

Cori's data usage is extensive, older adults can prevent memory diseases, and manage their health. Family members receive daily reports about the user's health and activities and can send recommended gifts based on the analyzed data to express their love and affection. For healthcare providers, Cori provides the user's health data so it can be helpful for their further treatment. It empowers users with personalized healthcare and keeps them connected to the support they need.

How we built it

Brainstorming > Ideation > Design > Prototyping > Demo video recording, iterating continuous meetings.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to start with a worthy problem to solve, and that requires critical thinking. We kept discussing thoughts about users, personas, user journeys, design strategies, market situations, what the current obstacles are, and what would make our service stand out + @. As a result, the ultimate design question that we found was, "How are we going to help older adults interact friendly with the AI service?"

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A creative idea integrated with TV and a QA (Question and Answering)-AI system, which does not currently exist in the market. Friendly interactions and visual design connect users, their family members, and healthcare providers in the loop.

What we learned

We learned how to broaden our ideas and develop them step by step through brainstorming and research.

What's next for Cori - A Friendly AI Chatbot for Older Adults.

We would like to develop the business model more in detail, showing and receiving constructive feedback (what’s feasible and what’s not) from startup investors and healthcare professionals in order to launch the actual product.
