Inspiration

Healthcare is fragmented, reactive, and cognitively expensive for patients. Healthcare today operates in silos, creating massive friction for patients. Appointment no-show rates cost the US healthcare system $150B annually and 30% of patients miss appointments due to forgotten dates, transportation issues, or insurance uncertainty. Medication non-adherence affects 50% of chronic disease patients, leading to 125,000 preventable deaths and $300B in avoidable costs yearly. Insurance claim denials due to eligibility issues occur in 20% of cases, and patients discover coverage problems only after care is delivered. Administrative burden consumes much time, from coordinating appointments, refills, referrals, and follow-ups across disconnected systems. We wanted to build something that proactively helps people take care of their health—not by nagging, but by guiding and motivating them.

How we built it

We designed CareLoop as a modular system with:

A conversational AI agent for proactive reminders and actions
A unified health portal UI for appointments, treatments, insurance, and pharmacy
Backend workflows for insurance eligibility checks and treatment tracking = A lightweight gamification layer (XP, streaks, missions) to encourage adherence

We focused on clear contracts between systems to keep the product extensible and healthcare-compliant.

Challenges we ran into

Designing gamification that feels motivating—not trivial or disrespectful in a healthcare context
Navigating complex insurance and healthcare workflows with limited real-time data
Balancing proactive AI behavior with user control and trust
Avoiding alert fatigue while still improving adherence
