Cordius

Corona + Radius = Cordius. Local map app that lets its users know all about covid-19 in their area. It can also allow users to self-diagnose themselves with Covid-19 using an array of questions

Inspiration

As news about the coronavirus spread, the virus spread with it. Some of our family members had contracted the virus, and some have been less fortunate than others and sadly passed away. We had created this application with the aim of reducing this sadness, and try and make the world a better step using one line of code at a time.

What it does

This is an application with 2 functions: self-diagnosis and a COVID-19 spread map. The self-diagnosis page allows users to self diagnose themselves with COVID-19 by answering the questions that we had made. The COVID-19 map page allows users to see the coronavirus activity in that area, which can advise them to stay away from the area or not (note that this function is entirely experimental and is still in the works).

How we built it

We built it using a Java IDE called Apache Netbeans, This software is known for making applications, so we did not have to use an external emulator to test the application.

Challenges we ran into

All of us are new to coding, with little to no experience at all. Every single line of code was a challenge for all of us. But, the most challenging aspect of this was to learn the Java language, and also trying to implement a COVID-19 spread map.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the design of our application, as it looks clean and sleek. We are also fast learners, and are proud that we could learn the Java language quick enough to make this all happen.

What we learned

We learnt that coding is extremely difficult, but learning it could benefit in the long run. We also learnt several statements from Java, and also learnt how to use Photoshop to design the app interface.

What's next for Cordius

As we progress with our higher studies, we will definitely come back to Cordius and work on it seriously. We believe it has the potential to work in the society. We also want to try and make it worldwide, including spread maps for more countries. Even if the coronavirus is not as contagious or dangerous as it is now in the future, we will try to upgrade Cordius' software to make it more useful in the future.
