Inspiration

Schools, malls, shops, sports, etc. leagues are shutting down. But experts confirm it is safe to shop from super markets and groceries, and meet in small groups.

What it does

CoPE is a full, real-time occupancy limit and restriction on gatherings and/or social distancing system. It utilizes 3D information from sensors (e.g. depth cameras) for the analysis of the human flows, which are processed in real-time leading to occupancy and/ or social distancing results. CoPE provides real-time notifications/ alerts for occupancy and social distancing to develop real-time apps for visitors, dynamic dashboards and widgets for managers, analytics and statistical information through a powerful IoT platform. Furthermore, it can remotely inform citizens (app) for stores/ building current occupancy for scheduling their visits.

How we built it

Capitalizing on existing commercial off-the-self HuBA (Human Behaviour Analysis) tool of Pragma, able to detect and track humans, to extract and analyse their flows and provide semantic information regarding the occupancy of the space and social distancing at real-time, our team will extend its functionalities to create CoPE.

Challenges we ran into

  • Occupancy information at real-time
  • Social distancing
  • Controlled entries according to EU and local laws
  • Reduce bottlenecks
  • Occupancy statistics
  • Visit optimization and schedule
  • Occupancy distribution per area/ store (statistics)
  • Relation of occupancy/ visits with coronavirus distribution

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • GDPR compliant
  • High accuracy (>98%)
  • Real-time processing and visualization
  • Real-time notifications/ alerts
  • Multi-sensorial information combination and management
  • Independency to lighting and shadows changes
  • Open API for 3rd party integration
  • Dynamic dashboards
  • Dynamic reports

What we learned

CoPE is a novel, smart, accurate and simple solution. However, it could provide significant information to the scientific community, and to cope with the COVID distribution. Furthermore, it could also provide information that can be combined with other dynamic information, such financial, marketing, electricity, etc. extracting semantic information related to the building usage.

What's next for CoPE

CoPE should correlate occupancy, visit and social distancing information with coronavirus distribution per area. The information will assist scientist to better understand the behavior of the occupants as well as the distribution of the virus at specific areas. Finally, CoPE team aims to national and European market, to this end a thorough marketing and distribution channel should be established.
