Inspiration
In a world where safety is paramount, we wanted to create a solution that empowers law enforcement agencies to combat both traditional and digital crimes more effectively. By leveraging modern technology, we aimed to enhance community safety and provide valuable tools for crime prevention and response.
What it does
Crimespotters empowers agencies to combat both traditional and digital crimes effectively, ensuring a safer community for all.
How we built it
For Crime Hotspots map, we obtained crime location data from statistics published by Singapore Police Force and translated the specific locations onto a map. We also used map function from Leaflet and the Dijkstra’s algorithm to find shortest path from the selected police station to crime hotspot when implementing the Patrol Route Optimisation.
Challenges we ran into
One of the major challenges we faced was accurately translating crime location data onto the map. Moreover, ensuring the data was up-to-date and precise required meticulous attention to detail.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed a functional and impactful tool that can make a real difference in community safety. Successfully integrating crime data with interactive mapping technology and implementing efficient route optimization are significant achievements. Our platform not only visualizes crime trends but also provides actionable insights for law enforcement agencies.
What we learned
Throughout the development of Crimespotters, we gained a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in crime data analysis and mapping. We learned how to effectively use algorithms like Dijkstra’s to solve real-world problems and the importance of accurate data representation in creating reliable tools for public safety. Collaboration and problem-solving were key to overcoming the technical challenges we encountered.
What's next for coolspotters
We will continue learning and pick up more skills so as we able to build more impactful digital solutions to solve various challenges and issues around the world!
How does your hack answer the problem statement
Our website uses a heat map to display crime hotspots, allowing for easy viewing and understanding of crime trends in the city. The mapping function allows for users to find the best route from police stations to the crime scene, as well, thereby increasing the efficiency of emergency response.
